Ermine’s newest A Series Nordic skate. In 2021, Ermine launched the original Alaska Skate™. Now, they’ve made it even better. This is a skate that can glide through the “Alaska test,” and do it in style. Read more..
Virtually every aspect of the Ak1 has been upgraded over previous models, from the quality of blade steel to the streamlined profile to the pins holding the blade in place. The Ak1 retains the ruggedness, stability, and reliability that earned the A Series its reputation in Alaska and beyond, while offering skaters improved performance and more binding mounting positions.
The Ak1 is compatible with select NNN and NNN BC bindings.
Proudly Made in Alaska by Ermine Skate
At the heart of the Ak1 is Ermine's exclusive hand-sharpened 1.6mm blade, now made from premium hardened 440C stainless steel. This extra wide blade provides exceptional glide on warmer ice, and best-in-class stability on rough ice. The new, harder steel means longer-lasting edges and less sharpening.
In 2021, Ermine pioneered the use of polymer ceramic coatings on Nordic skate frames. This coating is highly protective and fade-resistant, and allows us to employ a wide range of vibrant colors and effects. The Sitka red and Tongas green skates are lightly glossy, while Gold and Wild Rose contain shimmering metallics. All logos and marks on Ermine skates are permanently and beautifully laser-etched.
The Ak1's 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum frame is more streamlined than previous models, and the rounded tail is more durable and functional. The four slotted spring pins on previous models have been replaced with five hardened stainless steel coiled pins on the Ak1. Coiled pins can handle larger forces and are more resistant to fatigue.
Ermine skates are proudly made in Southcentral Alaska, and are the result of hard work by a team of Alaskans and Alaska companies. Ermine's small-scale local production allows us to closely monitor quality and make local skates for local conditions. Ermine Skate is also proud to work with Alaskan nonprofits, artists, and local retailers.
