The only
traditionally shaped skate skis we see today are entry level skis. While change
seems upon us we should remember that shaped skis have been tried in the past.
Are the new shaped skis better? You could get several different answers, even
here at AMH. They certainly are better for some things.
We have
the hour glass shape of the Madshus and Atomic and the double hourglass shape
of the Fischers. The Atomics have huge shovels and tails while the Madshus
are closer to traditional widths. What is better? We don't know. We have skied
them all and found that, when fit properly, all ski extremely well albeit
differently. We find much of it to be fashion and hype.
The shapes
do some things better than we have seen in the past and in the end all the
shapes offer some advantages. We tell you what we think in individual ski
